Cow slaughtering second day of Eid Al Adha 2017

Cow slaughtering on the second day of Eid Al Adha 2017. During the annual Haj pilgrimage, Muslims observe the Eid Al Adha.

Eid Al Adha is celebrated with special Eid Prayer in the morning and visiting the families, exchanging eid wishes and eat together special dishes prepared for Eid.

Also on the Eid Al Adha the Muslims will  sacrifice an animal, an act known as 'Qurban', basically means to give the meat in charity to the poor, the person who pay for the cow will take a small amount back home and the rest will be distributed to the poor people.

Those who would like to participate in the Qurban will give a specific amount with the intended parts of a cow to the mosque to be arranged to be sacrificed on the Eid, and the mosque community will purchase the livestock and together will sacrifice the animals.

Below is a video take here in Alor Setar, today at the Mosque Sultanah Bahiyah.

Mangosteen

Mangosteen is a tropical fruit, found in Malaysia. Outside, it looks like a big heavy purple nut, but when you hold it in your hand you will feel it very light.

If you open the outer skin inside you will see the inside looks white as milk, and soft easily melts in your mouth.

The Mangosteen fruit definitely has a sweet taste with a very slight sourness.
The season in Malaysia is June - August. Mangosteen seasons coincides with other fruits such as Durian, Rambutan and Longan.

Gunung Jerai - Mount Jerai

One of the attractions in Kedah is Gunung Jerai - Mount Jerai is a mountain in Kedah with the height of 3,854 feet. I started my journey from Alor Setar at 9 am via the North - South Highway, exit via Gurun takes around 30 mins, and from Gurun till up to the Mount Jerai another 30 mins or so.

The road to the mountain top is accessible via car or if you are not confident in driving yourself you can go with van rental, available at the parking area at the foothill. As I understand, the van ticket is RM 8 per person.

The road is easy but there are narrow parts and lots of curves. Some of them are abrupt climb and need good attention and driving skills. The road has some mirrors to help you while driving at the curves, but unfortunately some are missing/vandalised. The road has no street lights. It is recommended to drive during day time.

On the top is the Regency Jerai Hill Resort, The Puncak Restaurant, Cafe Point, Telaga Tok Sheikh, Mushroom Farm (no chance to visit as it was closed) and the Botanical Park.

The View from the top of Mount is outstanding, if the weather conditions are favorable. You will notice the paddy fields, the sea and some parts of the northern Kedah state.

The weather is just wonderful, with temperature comparable to the Cameron or Genting Highlands.

The view and the the beautiful flowers will take your breath.

Kekabu / Kapok tree / White silk cotton tree

Today while picnic by the road side i got the chance to capture some photos of the Kapok tree known as White Silk- Cotton Tree.
The fibre is light,  resistant to water. It is used as filling for pillows, mattress or stuffed toys.
From far the Kapok tree steal your eyes, especially when the fruit is dried,  you can see how the white fibre hang on the branches.
